Cursive Letter R Worksheets
These cursive letter R worksheets are ideal for teaching the uppercase R, lowercase r or even the short words that start with R. This resource is great for home or classroom and this printable page has letter R worksheets for tracing, writing and practice.
The letter R provides a wonderful opportunity to practice cursive as the lowercase letter r has a small shoulder.
The lowercase r is one of those letters that need to rise up and turn slightly on the top to avoid looking like n or v.
To access the worksheets you need to simply click on the image or the PDF icon below it. All printables are provided as a free printable PDF in US Letter size that should print beautifully on A4 size paper.
Choose a letter to practice cursive handwriting from A to Z.
Big Cursive R Letters
Here you can get a larger version of the printable to practice forming the cursive R letter.
The capital R needs to be nice and tall and the lowercase r needs the extra space for the small shoulder at the top.
The extra space is needed as the lowercase r is a smaller letter that requires more precision to write correctly.
If the top of the letter r is written too flat it will start to look like a v, and if it is written with too much of an angle, the words will be uneven.
Cursive R Upper & Lowercase
This printable places the uppercase and lowercase cursive R letters side by side to show their differences in height and how the lowercase r has a slight turn on the top.
The uppercase version of the cursive letter R maintains the height of most other capital letters in cursive whereas the lowercase r stays smaller and closer to the baseline.
The lowercase r should not be written too wide.
It needs the small turn at the top and an exit stroke to provide a connection to the next letter when writing words.
This printable is a good choice to practice the small shoulder as most other cursive letters have bigger shoulders or loops.
Cursive R 3 Letter Words
This printable will have you writing short 3 letter words that begin with the letter R such as run, ray and rim.
The 3 letter words are a great way to practice joining the letter r to u in run, r to a in ray and r to i in rim.
The small turn at the top of the letter r needs to be maintained to ensure the joins to the next letter are not affected as the letter r is one of the smaller letters in the cursive script.
