Cursive Letter D Worksheets

The cursive D is a great letter to be focusing on since it uses the rounded body with the tall top stroke. The lowercase d can be a challenge to write at first due to the need to make the top part of the letter reach up above the writing line before curving back down again.

Big Cursive D Letters
This worksheet allows children to engage in some big letter practice to help perfect their cursive D writing.
It is important for the kids to practice writing capital D in a larger size, while the lowercase d also has the additional challenge of having a smaller base.
The larger letters give the kids the opportunity to see what the rounded base looks like compared to the tall top stroke before progressing to practicing their smaller cursive letters.
If the oval base of the lowercase d becomes too wide then it will make the letter look uneven, while if it is not tall enough, it can start to resemble an a.
Cursive D Upper & Lowercase
This printable positions the uppercase and lowercase D side by side to help kids see the difference in size and shape between the two.
While the capital D simply takes up more room on the page, the lowercase d uses a small oval as the base with the top stroke reaching up and over. The most important part of the lowercase d is to keep the oval base tidy before reaching up with the top stroke.
This top part should not lean too far to one side, as this will cause the cursive d to appear unbalanced from the base to the top of the writing line.
Cursive D 3 Letter Words
This page sees the cursive D being used in three letter words such as dog, dig, and dot. Using the letter in these simple words allows the child to build their confidence with the new letter.
As can be seen in the word dog the d moves into the next letter with a rounded tail that fits perfectly into the curve of the o. Meanwhile the word dig shows how the d flows into the short i before finishing with the g. The word dot allows the child to practice putting the small d at the front of the word with the o following before finishing with the tall t.
