How to Draw a Unicorn
Unicorns are one of those mythical creatures that kids encounter in fairy tales, coloring pages, birthday decorations, stickers, and bedtime stories. With their beautiful horn, flowing mane, large eyes, and flowing tail, unicorns spark our imaginations before we’ve even picked up our drawing tools. In this simple step by step tutorial, you’ll learn how to draw a unicorn in only 17 easy steps.
This unicorn drawing guide is designed for kids and beginners. You’ll be able to add the unicorn’s legs, muzzle, nostrils, horn, ears, eyes, tail, and mane to your drawing, before coloring it in.
The beauty of this unicorn drawing is that it captures the magic and mystery of the unicorn in every little detail. The pink mane, rounded tail, striped horn, large eyes, and soft body all come together to make it an adorable unicorn drawing without any complicated skills.
Easy Unicorn Drawing Step by Step
Before you begin, make sure you have some drawing supplies on hand, such as a pencil, paper, eraser, and coloring tools.
The blue lines in the drawings below indicate the next lines to add.
Step 1: Draw the Unicorn Body Shapes
Begin by drawing two simple oval shapes. The first oval is your unicorn’s head, and the second oval is the unicorn’s body, which overlaps slightly with the first.

Step 2: Draw the Body and Legs
Next, connect your unicorn’s body and add the legs to your unicorn drawing.
The legs are simple rounded lines that extend beneath the unicorn’s body.

Step 3: Add the Back Leg
Add the small detail to your unicorn’s back leg on the side of the unicorn’s body, as shown in the image below.

Step 4: Draw the Muzzle Line
Add a curved line to the lower part of the unicorn’s head, as shown below.
This line creates the muzzle for your unicorn drawing.

Step 5: Add the Nostrils
Add two small oval nostrils to the muzzle of your unicorn drawing, as shown below.
These small details make the face of your unicorn even more interesting.

Step 6: Draw the Horn
Now add the unicorn’s horn on the top of its head.
The horn is a tall triangle, as shown below.

Step 7: Add the Ears and Horn Stripes
Add the unicorn’s ears on the top of its head, on either side of the horn.
Also add some short curved lines to the horn, as shown below. The unicorn’s ears and horn stripes add more detail to the top of the unicorn’s head.

Step 8: Draw the Inner Ears
Add a smaller ear detail to the inside of each of the unicorn’s ears, as shown below.

Step 9: Draw the Eyes
Add two large eye shapes to the face of the unicorn, as shown below. Position the eyes above the muzzle of the unicorn.

Step 10: Add the Eye Details
Now add the little details to the eyes of the unicorn, as shown below. These details make the eyes of the unicorn look bright and lively.

Step 11: Draw the Tail Outline
Add a large curved tail to the back of the unicorn, as shown below. The tail curves up and then back down again.

Step 12: Add the Tail Detail
Now add a second curved line inside the tail of your unicorn, as shown below. This creates more detail for coloring.

Step 13: Draw the Mane Outline
Start to add the large flowing mane of the unicorn by drawing a long flowing curve near the side of the unicorn’s head, as shown below.

Step 14: Add the Mane Detail
Add a second flowing curved line inside the mane of your unicorn, as shown below. This creates more detail for coloring.

Step 15: Draw the Front Mane Outline
Now create the front part of the unicorn’s flowing mane on the other side of the unicorn by adding a curved line similar to the one in step 13. This time, however, position the line so it flows down the side of the unicorn’s face, as shown below.
This creates more detail in the unicorn’s mane.

Step 16: Add the Front Mane Detail
Next, add the inner detail to the front part of the unicorn’s flowing mane, as shown below. This completes the flowing mane on both sides of the unicorn’s head.

Step 17: Color the Unicorn
Now color your unicorn drawing, using the image below as a reference. We have used a very light color for the body and pink color for the mane and tail of the unicorn. Also, the horn of the unicorn is orange and pink striped, the inner ears are pink, and the eyes are colored black and white. You can of course color your unicorn drawing in whatever colors you like!
Once you’ve finished coloring, you’ve completed this easy unicorn drawing!
