How to Draw a Snake

How To Draw A Snake Step By Step With Eight Simple Stages And A Finished Green Snake Drawing.

Snakes are easily identified thanks to their long winding bodies, small heads, and their inquisitive little tongues. The snake can be a challenging animal to draw due to its unique appearance, but once you’ve got that perfect curvy line going, it’s really not too difficult! In this easy step by step tutorial, you will learn how to draw a snake in 8 easy steps.

This snake drawing tutorial is ideal for kids and beginners. You will first begin by using a basic curvy guide line as shown below. From there, you’ll construct the head, body outline, inner body lines, eyes and tongue, pattern lines, and finally color your drawing.

The snake is drawn using long, rounded lines, leaving it simple, fun, and easy to follow. After you’ve added green and dark pattern lines, small eyes, and a pink tongue, your snake drawing will have a clean and finished look.

Easy Snake Drawing Step by Step

Before you begin your snake drawing, make sure you have your drawing supplies out and organized.

The blue lines shown below represent the lines you’ll need to draw in each step.

Step 1: Draw the Snake Guide Line

We’ll begin by drawing one long, curvy guide line across your page. Let the line meander across your page, as shown below.

This guide line will help determine the shape of your snake before we draw out the complete body.

Step 2: Add the Snake Head Shape

Now, let’s add the head shape to the end of our guide line. First, finish the head shape by adding some rounded lines to the top of the guide line. Next, add the inner mouth line within the head.

Make sure to keep this head shape small in comparison to the length of the guide line.

Step 3: Draw the Body Outline

The next snake drawing step is to add the body outline lines. Use the guide line as a starting point and draw the outside body lines around it. Keep the width of the snake consistent throughout this step.

By the end of this step, you should have a complete, curvy snake body.

Step 4: Add the Inner Body Lines

Let’s add the next set of lines to our snake. These inner body lines will help show the curvature of the snake, allowing it to look like it’s winding across the page. Just remember to keep the lines consistent with the body shape, as shown below.

After completing this step, your snake should look like it’s winding around rather than just laying flat on the page.

Step 5: Draw the Eyes

Now, let’s give our snake some eyes. We’ll be adding two small oval shaped eyes to the head, as shown below. Make sure to put the eyes higher up on the head rather than on the cheeks.

These small, simple eyes give our snake a cute and friendly expression.

Step 6: Add the Tongue

Let’s add the snake’s tongue by adding a forked shape coming out from its mouth. Make sure it’s skinny towards the end of the fork.

Although it’s a small part, the snake’s tongue helps us identify our creation.

Step 7: Draw the Pattern Lines

Time to add the pattern lines to your snake. These lines will help provide contrast, especially when you begin to color your drawing. Add some curved lines across your snake, making sure to cross several body sections, as shown below.

These pattern lines will help you determine where you should add the green and dark pattern lines.
